O DE MAHIN\nFounded in November 2018\, Punho de Mahin is a leading exponen
t of Afro Punk in\nBrazil. The band consists of four Black members\, inclu
ding two women and two\nmen. Their artistic and political mission revisits
a theme often neglected in\nthe punk and underground scene: the Black exp
erience in contemporary society.\nWith songs that address issues such as B
	lack protagonism\, structural racism\,\nmachismo\, sexism\, repression of
subjugated minorities\, intolerance\, and police\nviolence\, the band tran
slates various social ills into a raw and incisive sound.\nThe band's name
	 pays homage to Luíza Mahin\, a little-recognized historical\nfigure belie
ved to have been a princess from the Costa da Mina in Africa before\nbeing
enslaved and brought to Bahia in the 19th century. A Muslim\, intelligent
\,\nand articulate woman\, Luíza secured her freedom and participated in h
istoric\nrevolts\, such as the Malê Rebellion. She was also the mother of
	Luiz Gama\, a\nBrazilian lawyer\, poet\, and abolitionist\, who portrayed
her as a woman who\ndefied Christian dogmas and the impositions of slavery
. The invisibility of\nLuíza Mahin reflects a historical reality in which
the stories of Black women\nwere often silenced\, distorted\, and whitewas
	hed.\n\nhttps://youtu.be/vL6PaqGhayw?is=2zvG1nhBv1apEo-D\n[https://youtu.b
